The Free Motion Sewing Workshop is suitable for students who have completed Learn to Sew Stage 1, or who have reasonable confidence on their sewing machine and wish to try something different. It’s a common misconception that you need to be artistic to produce wonderful free motion pieces because free motion is about the art of drawing with thread, but this isn’t entirely true. Everyone is artistic in some form and students are often surprised after approaching the course with the phrase “I can’t draw!”.
In the morning, students are taught an array of techniques. Firstly we look and how and why free motion is achievable on a machine, how it’s possible to stop the machine stitching in a straight line and make it able to stitch wherever you move your fabric. Students then move on to using bondaweb, thick thread in the bobbin, dissolvable fabrics and much more!
During the afternoon students either create their own piece using their new skills or continue experimenting with other techniques. The possibilities really are endless because this course is tailored towards having a fun, relaxing creative day and students are encouraged to wander off in whichever direction their inspiration takes them.
This course is very popular with couples, friends and mother/daughter group bookings. We’ve been told time and time again by students that this because this course is the perfect way to escape, chat and spend some creative time together.
